Theater of Nations Opens the 2009-2010 Season in Helsinki

The Theater of Nations opened its 2009-2010 Season in Helsinki with performances of “Shukshin`s Stories” on August 17, 18 and 19 at the famed International Helsinki Theater Festival on the small stage of the Finnish National Opera. Also participating in the festival were Pina Bausch and Robert Lepage.

The Theater of Nations concluded last season with performances of “Shukshin`s Stories” at two other famous European festivals — Theaterformen in Hannover, Germany, and the Wiener Festwochen in Vienna, Austria.

In the coming season “Shukshin`s Stories” will be performed at numerous Russian and international festivals: Baltic Seasons in Kaliningrad (Sept. 2 and 3), International Golden Mask in Riga, Estonia and Vilnius (Oct. 9 — 15), Shukshin Year in Altai (Dec. 7 to 9). The first Moscow performances of the production will take place Sept. 21 and 22 during the Shukshin Days in Moscow festival.

In 2010“Shukshin`s Stories” will perform at festivals in Israel and the Netherlands.

The theater`s Moscow season begins Sept. 11 with a performance of “The Swedish Matchstick.” In the 2007-2008 season this production was a recipient of Crystal Turandot and Silver Knight awards, and it won the Grand Prize at the International Festival in Nice. It was also nominated for several Golden Mask awards in Moscow.

The Theater of Nations will present Alla Sigalova`s production of “Poor Liza” September 14 and 15 in Perm at the Territory Festival. This modern dance piece is based on an opera by Leonid Desyatnikov and stars Chulpan Khamatova and Andrei Merkuryev.
