Yevgeny Mironov
People’s Artist of Russia,
Yevgeny Mironov was born in 1966. He graduated from the Saratov Theatre Institute in 1986 and from Oleg Tabakov's acting course at the Moscow Art Theatre School in 1990. That same year he joined the troupe of the Tabakov Theatre where he performed in productions of A Usual Story (Alexander Aduev), Matrosskaya Tishina (David Shvarts), Star Hour, Local Time (Kolya), Anecdotes (Lebezyatnikov and Khomutov), Another Van Gogh... (Sasha) and others. Here he also played the title role in Vladimir Mashkov's production of The Bumbarash Passion. At the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre he performed the roles of Treplev (The Seagull), George Pigden (Ray Cooney's Out of Order under the title of «No. 13») and Porfiry Golovlyov (The Golovlyov Family). In 2006 he founded the Yevgeny Mironov Theatrical Company and produced and starred in the title role of Kirill Serebrennikov's production of Figaro.
He participated in numerous celebrated international theatre projects, including Peter Stein's Hamlet (as Hamlet) and Oresteia (as Orestes), Declan Donnellan's Boris Godunov (as the False Dmitry), and Eimuntas Nekrosius's The Cherry Orchard (as Lopakhin).
Mironov is one of the leading stars of contemporary Russian cinema. On the big screen he performed in Alexander Kaidanovsky's The Kerosene Seller's Wife, Valery Todorovsky's Love, Pyotr Todorovsky's Encore, Once More Encore! Nikita Mikhalkov's Burnt by the Sun, Vladimir Khotinenko's The Muslim, Sergei Gazarov's The Inspector General, Denis Yevstigneev's Limita and Mama, Nikolai Lebedev's The Source of Snakes, Alexei Uchitel's His Wife's Diary and Dreaming of Space, Mikhail Ptashuk's In August of 1944, Valery Fokin's Metamorphosis, Andrei Konchalovsky's House of Fools, Yegor Konchalovsky's Escape, Konstantin Khudyakov's On Upper Maslovka, Andrei Kavun's The Hunt for Piranha, and others. In television he starred in the popular miniseries The Idiot (as Count Myshkin, based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel); The First Circle (as Nerzhin, based on Alexander Solzhenitsyn's novel); and The Apostle.
He is the recipient of the Golden Mask national Russian theatre award, the Triumph award, the Crystal Turandot, the Nika, the Idol award, the Constellation award, the Stanislavsky international prize, and others. He is the Chairman of the organizing committee of the Campaign for Support of Theatre Initiatives, as well as of the Territory festival of contemporary art.
He was appointed Artistic Director of the Theatre of Nations in December 2006.
He is a member of the board of the Culture and Art Council of the President of the Russian Federation. He is a People's Artist of the Russian Federation.
