Territory Festival
With the support of theAdministration of the President of the Russian Federation and the
Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation
the TERRITORY International Festival and School
is held annually from September to October.
The idea for this festival arose several years ago as the result of the Campaign to Support Theatrical Initiatives, conceived by the President's Council of the Russian Federation. The main participants in the campaign Yevgeny Mironov, Kirill Serebrennikov, Theodore Currentzis, Roman Dolzhansky, Chulpan Khamatova and Andrei Uraev resolved to expand the notion of government prizes and formulated the idea of a new kind of international festival and school. The festival organizers put forth a new method of attracting young theatre artists from Russia and abroad: the education of a new generation of artists by way of building personal relationships and fostering interaction with representatives of the leading trends in world culture. In 2008 Maria Mironova was added to the festival's board of directors. As the organizers of the Territory festival have put it: We want the members of the young generation to be educated and knowledgeable. We want them to know contemporary world culture first hand.
In 2008, for the first time, the Territory festival had two financial partners Russian Standard Bank and MasterCard. In 2009 the international, multi-cultural TERRITORY festival and school will take place for the fourth time in Moscow. As ever, its motto is ART NOW. The festival also has an experimental program whose aim is to bring together various aspects of contemporary art theatre, music, dance, fine arts and new media. Participants include important contemporary artists, some of whom are well known in Russia, some of whom make their first appearance in Russia thanks to the festival. The festival's program is broken down into two main courses ART NOW and ART TOMORROW.
