Schedule of productions in the Shakespeare@Shakespeare project
Dear Friends!
We are pleased to announce that we will be conducting the new Shakespeare@Shakespeare project at the Theater of Nations. It`s still too early to call it a festival, but we hope that in time that`s what it will become. We lack a significant Shakespeare festival here in Russia, a country that has produced numerous internationally renowned Shakespeare productions and which loves the Great Bard every bit as much as those do in his homeland. Something like this should have been established long ago. As such, we have devised a kind of theatrical forum, which will offer Russian audiences the best Shakespeare productions, will produce new ones, and will organize seminars and master classes. In short, there is much work to be done!
For the time being, the plays of the great Englishman will be performed on Moscow`s stages in Hebrew, Lithuanian, and Russian.
First up will be Hamlet as produced by the Chamber Theater of Tel Aviv. This show has been called the «`Hamlet` of the 21st century» and it would appear that a great emotional experience awaits us. As an actor who was fortunate to play the role of the Danish Prince for Peter Stein, I am excited to have the opportunity to see this show. And I am happy to welcome our colleagues from Israel to Moscow.
That is only the beginning, however. In this season, we and the NET Festival will offer still another Hamlet to audiences. This one will be the work of Oksaras Korsunovas, one of the leading directors in the new European theater. We will also be showing a production of King Lear by the Young Spectator Theater of Nizhny Novgorod. Finally, we at the Theater of Nations will produce our own show Romeo and Juliet, under the direction of one of Russia`s best young directors Vladimir Pankov. The premiere is set for December.
Wish us luck! And now, we shall begin!
