The Festival of Alternative Theatre of France and Not Only France
The Alternative Theatre of France festival arose several years ago. Its goal is to bring to Russia original, expressive productions that rely on a minimum of text; avant-garde works that balance between traditional genres and employ aspects of puppetry, pantomime and circus. The first festival took place in 2006. It featured Sigmund's Follies by the great puppeteer and theatrical con artist Philippe Genty, and the popular European Turak-Theatre of Michel Laubu, an artist who works wonders with the most common of objects. In 2008 the festival presented numerous unusual productions from France and Switzerland as well as a joint Russian-French project Marina Tsvetaeva's The Swain, directed by Lucie Berelowitch and Vladmir Pankov.
